I am an AI governance expert and data policy consultant with experience working with the highest levels of government, businesses, think tanks and non-profits in different countries of the world. I have extensive experience in policy development and regulatory affairs and related communication issues. In particular, as a Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP/E), Certified Privacy Manager, and experienced communication professional, I have detailed expertise in the policy debates around data protection, ethics in technology and trustworthy AI, and advise on obligations and opportunities under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the upcoming European AI Act. The European New School of Digital Studies at Europa Universität Viadrina currently gives me the extraordinary opportunity to work on how European regulatory approaches for AI can be implemented by start-ups and small businesses so they can actually have the societal impact that we hope for. I’m building on my work as a Fellow in Residence with Mozilla Foundation and Senior Fellow at Stiftung Mercator, where I looked at what small AI companies across the globe can do to prepare and implement emerging guardrails for AI.
Previously, I have spent 15 years as a diplomat representing the German government in different functions and countries, most recently on the US West Coast, building strong relationships with Silicon Valley businesses, start-ups, institutions and executives, creating public-private initiatives, partnering with the most diverse stakeholders, and serving as the media spokesperson for Germany on the US West Coast.
