Dr. Rasmus Rothe, born in 1989, is an internationally recognised expert in AI and computer vision. He is co-founder and CTO of the venture studio Merantix, which is pioneering the transfer of AI research into real-world applications. He is also the initiator of the AI Campus, a hub for the AI community in Berlin. Dr Rasmus Rothe is also a founding board member of the German Association of AI Companies (KI Bundesverband e.V;), which is developing the national AI strategy in close cooperation with the German regulatory authority. In 2019, he was included in Forbes’ “30 under 30” list and Capital magazine’s “40 under 40” list.
At Merantix, Rasmus Rothe has been working with Adrian Locher (CEO) and more than 70 team members since 2016 to put the research findings of renowned scientists into practice. Merantix provides access to highly skilled talent, industry partners and investors. This allows founding teams to work on AI applications under optimal conditions and validate them in the market at an early stage. Current industry verticals include healthcare, automotive, business intelligence and biotech.
Rasmus studied computer science at Oxford, Princeton and ETH Zurich. His scientific work has won several awards and has been widely cited (1000+). At the age of 26, he completed his PhD in Computer Vision at ETH Zurich and developed an algorithm for age recognition from photos with more than 150 million users. During this time, he also co-founded the HackZurich hackathon (www.hackzurich.com), now the largest event of its kind in Europe.
While still in high school, Rasmus Rothe conducted research at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and won the Robocup Junior World Championship with his team in 2007.
