Prof. Dr. Holger Hoos

Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Director of the AI Center | RWTH Aachen University, Germany

Holger H. Hoos is Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Artificial Intelligence at RWTH Aachen University, where he also leads the AI Centre, part-time professor of machine learning at Leiden University (Netherlands) and adjunct professor of computer science at the University of British Columbia (Canada). He is a fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the European AI Association (EurAI) and chairman of the board of CAIRNE (formerly CLAIRE). Professor Hoos is a driving force in the transformation process of the Rhineland mining region and, in this context, has been significantly involved in the establishment of the Jupiter AI Factory at Forschungszentrum Jülich in close partnership with RWTH Aachen University. Holger Hoos developed the paradigm of programming by optimisation (PbO) and is one of the originators of the concept of automated machine learning (AutoML).
