Dr. Soner Emec

Project Lead KISZ Berlin Brandenburg Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) | Co-Founder Codegree

Dr.-Ing. Soner Emec is the project lead of the AI Service Center (KISZ) Berlin Brandenburg at the Hasso Plattner Institute. The AI Service Center aims to promote the democratization of Large Language Models for Europe, as well as expand access and usage of complex neural networks to a wider audience, such as SMEs and public institutions. He is also the Co-Founder of Codegree, a web-based development environment for learning programming. Dr. Emec previously served as the Program Coordinator for Robotics and Intelligent Systems and led numerous AI implementation projects in automated manufacturing at the Production Technology Center Berlin, both on a European and national level. His research interest is Human-Centered AI in Manufacturing.

The focus of his current work is to build the AI Service Center at HPI as well as create an ecosystem for cross-pollination between basic research, applied science and industry research to increase the spin-off rate for technology-based start-ups.

He has experience in the areas of industrial automation, robotics, machine vision and hybrid intelligent systems. His research work is ‘AI- Assistance Systems for In-Process Inspection and Control in Manufacturing’ (https://www.tu.berlin/ueber-die-tu-berlin/profil/pressemitteilungen-nachrichten/hybride-intelligenz).

In the past years, Soner Emec has worked on the cross-European project ‘Knowledge, Awareness and Prediction of Man, Machine, Material, and Method in Manufacturing’ funded program of the EU. KAP is a multidisciplinary, industry-supported research initiative with 14 global partners from 8 EU countries, which aimed at developing the next-generation ICT technology framework and manufacturing standards to ensure the efficient use of resources through the effective coordination of man, machine, material, and methods by an increased machine intelligence across the automation pyramid.
