Prof. Dr. Dirk Böndel

Prof. Dr. Dirk Böndel was born in 1955 in Bad Salzuflen. In 1976 he took up studies in philosophy, psychology and mathematics at the Technische Universität Berlin, receiving his degree (Magister Artium) in 1981. At the same university he subsequently studied the history of science and technology and was awarded a PhD for his work on shipbuilding in the late 18th century. 

He began working for the Deutsches Technikmuseum (German Museum of Technology) in 1983. In 1987 he was promoted to Head of the Department of Ships, curating the permanent exhibition on shipping which was opened in the new building of the museum in 2003. In 2000 he was appointed Deputy Director and in 2003 Director of the Foundation Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin. Since 2003 he also has been Executive Director of the T&M Technik und Museum Marketing GmbH.
